A Call for Designation of Free Economic Zones

• The necessity for a revolutionary initiative to completely change the existing industrial system of a manufacturing-oriented infrastructure and of general conditions for unfavorable investment attraction.
• The creation of a national strategy regarding artificial intelligence (Dec. 2019, joint agreement by relevant departments) to promote Gwangju as an integrated cluster for AI (2020-2024).
• Designating the Gwangju AI convergence district as a free economic zone and establishing it as a base for the newly emerging global industry by creating an innovative ecosystem that facilitates integration of the region’s key industries (energy, biomedicine, etc.) with AI technology.

Implementers of Development Projects and Methods of Implementation

• Implementer : Gwangju Metropolitan City, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Gwangju Metropolitan City Corporation
• Implementation method : the public development method is used in principle and a separate project method can be changed if the characteristics and functions of the project area are taken into consideration while there is no impact on the real estate price.
